Shortlist announced for INSTORE'S 8th Annual America's Coolest Store Competition

They come from across the country. Small inner city studios that reflect their owners' artistic sensibilities, huge suburban temples to luxury, and tradition-seeped stores that have been helping the same community celebrate weddings and other important events for five generations or more.

In all, 40 of the continent's finest jewelry stores made the final cut for one of the industry's most sought after honors – the title of America's Coolest Store. The annual competition, run by INSTORE MAGAZINE, seeks to honor independent jewelry-store owners who have created standout retail experiences based not only the physical features of their buildings but also on their marketing, individuality and "business story."

Past winners have included some of America's best-known and innovative jewelers including Zachary's Jewelers in Baltimore, MD, Traditional Jewelers in Newport Beach, CA, and Underwood's Fine Jewelry in Fayetteville, AR.

As it did last year, 2009's competition will have two divisions – Small Cool (stores with five or fewer staff) and Big Cool (six or more staff), with the winners announced in the August edition of INSTORE. The four runner-ups in each division are also honored and profiled in the magazine.

The stores are judged by experts in store design, marketing, retailing and also by past winners. The 40 stores that made the final round are shortlisted below ???.
